Why Stay Home When You Could Travel?

Traveling can be one of the greatest adventures in life. There are so many places to go and things to see. This article can help you to broaden your horizons and to become a traveler. Traveling is an important part of life because you meet new people and experience new things.

Before traveling, make sure you check the projected weather for your destination. You don’t want to be stuck with nothing but winter clothes during a heat wave or only shorts and tank-tops during a blizzard. Purchasing new clothing while on vacation may not only be expensive, but you might not have room in your luggage to take everything home with you!

Ask a friend or family member to drive you to the airport. You can save on cab fare and long term parking fees. Many people will be happy to perform this favor for you, especially if you are willing to reciprocate later on down the road, when they are taking a vacation.

By going on the Internet, one can access a large amount of information relating to where one is traveling, and about the area, one is going. Researching local attractions can help one plan out their trip before it even begins. Having a plan in place and information on the area can lead to a more enjoyable experience.

When planning to fly for a trip, don’t forget any frequent flier miles you might have racked up. It does you no good to hang onto those once you’ve already gone on your big vacation. Even if you don’t have enough miles to cover the whole trip, many airlines will allow you to discount your rate using your miles.

Hiking

Make your vacation more green by discovering new places on foot. You will find a lot of the most enticing sights are set off from the main thoroughfares, hidden away and only accessible by foot. Hiking offers many unforgettable views and up close experiences, as does biking and canoeing.

When visiting America’s National Parks, hiking is a great way to see what the park has to offer. While walking around and hiking stay on the park’s trails at all times. This will protect you from anything in the wilderness, and it will also protect the wilderness from you.

When visiting America’s National Parks, don’t just drive around the park. Get out and explore by foot. It is a great experience to visit the park, and see all that it has to offer. The only way to do that is to find a hiking trail and explore the area.

When you plan on hiking during your trip, avoid doing so alone as it can be unsafe, especially if you are unfamiliar with the area. Do not rely on what knowledge or skills you think you may have. Remember you are responsible for yourself and anybody who is with you, so be smart and cautious.

Snorkeling

If you are going to travel to a destination that involves scuba diving or snorkeling, be sure to invest in an underwater camera. There are many great underwater digital cameras on the market nowadays. Most digital cameras also include a video setting so that you can capture your whole underwater adventure.

Bring a snorkel with you when you are traveling on a cruise ship. Rather than spending money on an official “snorkeling excursion,” just use your own snorkel equipment during a shore day. Snorkels don’t take up a lot of room in your suitcase, and this method allows you to avoid time limits or the hassles associated with swimming in a group.

It has already been stated that traveling can be one of the greatest adventures in your life. There are so many things in this world to experience. By taking this article to heart and following your dreams of traveling, you can broaden your horizons and experience things that you have only dreamed of.

Is It Dangerous to Eat then Swim?

man in lake swimming after eating

Swimming after eating will cause cramping or stitching, and you’ll drown if you swim after eating, are all stories that you’ll hear when the summer is nearing. But how accurate are these statements? Is there scientific evidence to support the arguments?

Some people still believe that a person should wait for at least 30 minutes after eating before they can get into the water. The reason they always have is that swimming after eating is dangerous; the gate between the intestines and stomach will cramp and make the swimmer unable to stay above the water. No scientific evidence supports this belief.

What’s the origin of the belief?

The belief has been around for over ten decades now when it was written in a Boy Scout handbook. The handbook warned boys that if they did not stay for at least 90 minutes after eating, they might drown when swimming. It’s not known where the Boy Scout got the idea, but certainly, it was inaccurate.

Hashing Out the Belief that Eating then Swimming Will Kill You

– The concern about cramping:

People believe that during digestion, your blood is diverted away from your muscles and taken into your gut. As a result, your arms and limbs won’t get enough flow of blood because your stomach is diverting it. Another contradicting version of the belief is that swimming might inhibit blood flow into your stomach, causing cramps. What you should know is that your blood isn’t diverted to cause any problems. And more so, everyone has enough blood, and so no blood diversion will leave a specific part completely weak. In reality, cramping occurs when doing activities that require a lot more vigor, than just the basic swimming. When cramping occurs in professional swimmers, it’s more caused by overexertion than food.

– The concern about stitching:

Stitching might feel like cramping, but there is a difference between the two. Although medically described as an exercise-related abdominal pain, much about stitches is not known. Elite swimmers are prone to stitches, but there is a scientific theory that can explain the exercise-related stitches. This is it if you drink or eat anything will leave you bloated, you are more likely to get a stitch. So, you just have to be keen on what you eat.

– The concern about drowning:

Drowning is linked to cramping and stitching. As the belief goes that swimming just after eating can cause cramping and stitching, it is said that the pain might overwhelm you and you could end up drowning. Another version of the belief is that when you swim just after eating, your body might not be able to stay afloat of the water. There is no scientific basis for these arguments. Think about how many people spend days at the beach eating and then throwing some snorkel gear on and enjoying the coral? As a matter of fact, no one has been reported to die because they swam on a full stomach. Statistics only attribute drowning to drug and alcohol use, never to food.

Conclusion

There is no proven reason to avoid swimming immediately after eating. In fact, eating some hours before you swim can provide you the required energy levels that you’ll need when swimming to stay afloat. Have you even not heard of endurance swimmers who swim long distances consuming food during the race? With the scientifically available information, the belief that “eating after swimming is dangerous” can be dismissed as a myth. While there are no concerns about drinking, it’s essential that you should always stay hydrated when swimming.

Water Filter Limitations

reverse osmosis water filter hiking

Many of the water filters carried by backpackers and long-distance hikers are unable to remove microorganisms in proportions smaller than 3 microns.

While protozoa such as Giardia (shown below) and Cryptosporidium are in proportions of about 5 microns, water filtration systems are missing bacteria such as cholera, E. coli, and salmonella (0.2-0.5 microns) and trojans such as hepatitis A, rotovirus, and Norwalk (.004 microns).

Once you filter your drinking water, the safe solution is to always use a drinking water purifier such as chlorine dioxide. Like filter systems, however, these chemical substances have limitations that you will need to learn to avoid getting tired. Nothing on the trail can come even with reverse osmosis filters in homes, but most hiking filters can come kinda close in taste and safety.

All chemical chemicals have a water purification problem that has sediment because the allergens suspended in this inflatable water impede the chemical reaction. Therefore, filtering to remove the sediment or to make the sit overnight can be done before purification is preferred by the particles.

In addition, if your normal water is below 60 levels F, the purification process will be slowed down in winter. In most thumb cases, the recommended contact time should be twined for each and every 20 F levels below 60 F levels.

P.S. I started kayaking whitewater in October 2007 with a good friend and kayak coach who is in charge of the chemical executive unit responsible for certifying normal water purification solutions for the entire U.S. Military. The military. He was adament that the combination of water purification and purification is necessary for traveling backcountry in the eastern United States, which is why I quote above.

He’s a sectionhiker as well. 🙂

How To Sell Excess Goods from Home to Fund Your Hiking Trips

Hey, all you hiking and outdoor enthusiasts! If you’re looking for a way to fund your many outdoor games, trips and tricks…then consider selling some used goods for the house that you’re not using anymore.

Don’t go into new retail stores without knowing that your product is rare. Your greatest option is to implement additional used items or the sale price is a barometer. With clothing, people sometimes only have to look at it to purchase it. An item that is sold is more exceptional than a piece of rubbish in their house because the list has been posted on sites like Craigslist or Ebay for a few months. Of course, community and shipyard transactions are options here, but such items have a better chance of maintaining their value than some others who would like to touch and feel before buying.

Selling Household Goods

You can certainly sell household goods at a sales site, but there is a good chance that you will receive a similar or greater amount of money for them on the internet. Large equipment and furniture components are largely detached from smaller appliances, because they are almost impossible to ship. Even if you have shipped them, it is unlikely that the money you would earn from the transaction would be valuable enough to cover the shipping costs.

Most companies determine that their stocks are outdated when there is no sale after a certain period of time. Corporations frequently tax outdated inventories for the price of items sold around the completion of the year. If consumers deny to purchase your outdated stock, regardless of the market value, discount, and package; you can still sell your surplus inventory to settlement organizations. It is best practice to look at the trends in sales from previous years, usually by buying items that have proven to be a good sales experience, and to look at what your competition sell and how good they sell them.

Companies use a variety of methods, including an annual physical inventory of individual items and continuous checking of points, which may be more beneficial for items that move quickly or have inventory problems. The inventory control is implemented to indicate the supply of stock you possess at a likely moment and is applicable to every product, from commodities to the final item. Instead of acquiring completed items from additional vendors, your company will source the raw materials that you will then convert into items for sale.

Homegoods shoppers travel around the globe to look for the best and unique products available. Many identical products can be seen in top class catalogues, specialties, and shops.

With an innovative purchasing approach and a positive relationship with sellers, many home good sellers are able to deliver a wide range of quality products, offering customers a wide range of one-of-a-kind items with significant savings.

Building A Kitchen Counter

Wooden countertops are a nice, low-cost and very handy way to upgrade your kitchen. An extra small addition is the fact that the corners do not have to be cut with wooden counters. Having a nice amount of wood in the front and center of the room provides it a truly warm and inviting atmosphere, and the kitchen is truly the heart of the house with our new wooden countertops. Also, make sure that you use precision tools to level everything. Check out this cool website to learn all you need to level anything and use laser levels to do your work: https://toplaserlevel.net.

If you go with wooden floors, I recommend that you choose a slightly different shade of wood from the one you select for your counters and it will be good, especially if you go with painted cabinets. Depending on the appearance and accessibility of the wood, you can use flooring, regenerated wood or hardwood flooring for building a kitchen counter. If your counter is in a kitchen, make sure that there is no water leakage.

Best Time of Year to Hike in Georgia

Gorgeous scene of Georgia pond and waterfall taken on the hiking trail

Hiking can be a fitness lovers dream or a family leisure activity, though the best season to hike is an opinion that varies as much as the terrain people find enjoyable. Hiking in a warmer climate may be better in the fall and winter months, whereas hiking in colder climates may be preferable in the spring and summer. So, when then is the best time of year to hike in Georgia?

Some people may advocate for spring and summer as the prime hiking season in Georgia’s beautiful wooded areas, including the Georgian Appalachian Trail. There are beautiful flowers beginning to bloom and furry creatures coming out of hibernation, baby animals being born amidst the wonders that is nature renewed. However, there are also many other people who would agree, leading to crowded trails and less likelihood that you can really experience a personal connection with nature.

Autumn in Georgia offers as many, if not more, wonders of nature to the avid hiker. With the changing colors on the trees and late blooming fall flowers, the forests of Georgia (not too vastly different than Vermont) are a myriad of beautiful scenes. Though the weather is colder at night, the cooling daytime temperatures keep many other hikers and tourists indoors, leaving hiking trails peacefully uncrowded.

With the daytime temperatures cooler in Autumn, summertime pests like mosquitos, gnats and other bothersome flying insects are less of a nuisance to hikers, making the experience more pleasant than it would be under a baking midsummer sun. Also, other animals such as snakes, alligators and woodland rodents are beginning their hibernations, while winter animals are emerging, adding their beauty to the splendor of hiking in Georgie in the Autumn months.

With the relatively warmer climate of Georgia, even a venture out during the winter months could be an experience worth sharing with friends and with nature.
